Brochures are a print staple — and one of the most frequently mis-specified print items. Over-ordered, over-finished and often laminated so they cannot be recycled.
Common mistakes
Ordering more than you will use. Heavy gloss lamination. Heavy ink coverage throughout. Non-standard sizes that waste paper in cutting.
Eco-friendly specification
Paper: 130-170gsm silk or uncoated FSC certified. Finish: No lamination, or soft-touch aqueous coating. Format: A4 or A5 — the most paper-efficient formats. Quantity: Digital print makes short runs economical. Inks: Vegetable-based as standard.
Design choices that affect sustainability
Heavy ink coverage uses significantly more ink. Light designs with white space use less ink, are often easier to read and are cheaper to print.
